3D Design of Shredding Machine

This graduation project was completed as part of the requirements for the Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering at Birzeit University. It was performed both practically and theoretically, combining hands-on mechanical work with technical research and analysis.

The project focuses on developing a tire recycling machine designed to efficiently process end-of-life tires. It consists of two main phases:
  • Phase 1: involves the removal of the steel beads from the tires. This makes the subsequent cutting process easier and allows the beads to be recycled separately. In this phase, a hydraulic system, powered by an electric motor, operates a pulling hook that shears the beads from the tire into an inner container. (Note: Phase 1 is not discussed in detail in this project.)

  • Phase 2: the main focus of the project, deals with shredding the tires into smaller, more manageable pieces suitable for use in various industrial applications. This phase includes three key parts: initial shredding using cutting disks and spacer disks, followed by secondary shredding to produce finer, smoother pieces. Larger fragments are redirected back for re-shredding using a screen sieve to ensure uniform size and quality.

This machine aims to contribute to environmental sustainability by enabling the efficient recycling of waste tires into useful products.
